Email your legislator and ask them to do their part to hold fossil fuel companies accountable for all the damage they have caused in our state.

I am urging you to vote YES on SB 1497.  California is already bearing the brunt of the fossil fuel driven climate emergency. Lives, livelihoods, and entire ecosystems have been lost and the crisis has cost the state billions of dollars in damages. These costs are predicted to rise even as California leads the transition away from fossil fuels. SB 1497 will ensure that the polluters most responsible for climate damages, not California taxpayers, are the ones who pay.

The state faces a multi billion dollar budget deficit in 2024 resulting in possible cuts to critical climate programs. SB 1497 requires the largest fossil fuel polluters that have done the most to cause the climate crisis to pay their fair share for the damage their products have inflicted upon the State of California.

This bill is common sense policy that fairly attributes the costs of climate damages in California to the biggest polluters who have profited most from products that are directly responsible for the climate emergency.  Please vote YES on SB 1497, the Polluters Pay Climate Cost Recovery Act.
