Walmart: Stop Selling Assault Rifles
Walmart has the power to prevent tragedies like the recent Newtown, CT shootings if they put public safety ahead of profit. The world's largest retailer -- and America's largest gun dealer -- could make a good faith effort to help stop gun violence by joining Dick's Sporting Goods in voluntarily stopping sales of assault weapons.
Assault rifles belong on the battlefield, not in our communities.
In December, Walmart stated that it would continue to sell guns, including rifles like the AR-15, which was used in Newtown, Aurora, and against firefighters on Christmas Eve in upstate New York.
Walmart sells several types of modern sporting rifles, the gun industry's term for firearms that look like an M-16 military rifle. After the Newtown shootings, the retailer removed the Bushmaster AR-15 from its website, but it continues to sell them in stores just as it did before.
Tell Walmart: "Put public safety ahead of profit and stop selling assault weapons."
