President Obama: Call for the assault weapons ban in the State of the Union

UPDATE: He did it! During his State of the Union address on February 12, 2013, President Obama said "Police chiefs are asking our help to get weapons of war and massive ammunition magazines off our streets, because they are tired of being outgunned."

Next Tuesday, President Obama will make his State of the Union address, outlining his legislative priorities. Is the assault weapons ban one of them? Ask him to say so loud and clear.

We must do all we can to end the epidemic of mass shootings. But already, certain weak-kneed Democrats in Washington are backing away from the assault weapons ban and suggesting that it can't be done.

This is ludicrous. 71% of gun owners favor a ban on assault weapons, including 60% of NRA members, and Australia's assault weapons ban has been more successful than its authors dared hope.

Sign on and tell the president: "Show the courage of your convictions and call on Congress to restore the assault weapons ban during your State of the Union address."
