Tell the Dept. of Education: Investigate predatory lending to students & schools
Our state's public universities and community colleges are drowning in debt to Wall Street due to predatory loans, and the schools have responded by passing the cost of these bad loans on to students in the form of HIGHER tuition fees. In the last 10 years, tuition has increased 114% at the University of California, 134% at California State Universities, and by 43% at community colleges.
California's public higher education system is one of the largest and most highly regarded in the world. These public institutions are meant to be places that foster new ideas and scientific breakthroughs, NOT yet another way for Big Banks to bleed the rest of us for profit.
The good news is that the U.S. Dept. of Education is conducting townhall meetings and could investigate these predatory loans if we put pressure on them.
Sign on to tell the U.S. Dept. of Education: Investigate how much profit Wall Street and other lenders are making off of our public colleges and crack down on predatory lending to our schools and students.
