Tell Sacramento: Invest in Californians
The people of California are hurting. Badly. We have the highest poverty rate in the nation and our higher education system is a shell of its former self.
More than $36 billion in funding for education, childcare, healthcare, nutrition, and housing were slashed during the Great Recession and have yet to be restored. This is despite billions in new revenue available thanks to Prop. 30 -- passed in 2012 only due to the work of courageous progressives.
Progressives must take a stand. Budget negotiations are going on RIGHT NOW, and instead of using new Prop. 30 revenue to restore funding to vital services, the Governor is hoping to fund prison expansion and stash billions away for the next rainy day. Well, we've got news for the governor: it's still raining! California may be in a severe drought, but the economic storm continues to pour down.
Join the fight today. Sign here and you'll immediately email your representatives in Sacramento, asking them to support $5 billion more to restore funding to education and the safety net:
“California needs $5 billion more than Gov. Brown has proposed to restore funding to education and safety net services. It's time to invest in Californians and grow our economy, not pander to the right-wing."
