Californians went to the polls in November to demand a justice system that was equitable and restorative. And if Governor Gavin Newsom is going to follow through on making criminal justice reform a priority, he needs to appoint a replacement for Attorney General Xavier Becerra who has a strong, proven track record of listening to community voices over special interests, building trust with diverse stakeholders, and delivering on policies that reform a white supremacist law enforcement system -- not someone who will keep the status quo and just use the seat to fulfill their ambition for another office.
Gov. Newsom has several excellent candidates who have long histories of fighting for the environment, racial justice, and criminal justice reform. But on his short list to replace Becerra are also candidates who have terrible records on criminal justice and equitable reforms. We must make our voices heard.
Choose an attorney general with a proven record of fighting for equity and justice for California.
