Stop Trump’s offshore drilling “plan”
Donald Trump wants to open nearly every inch of the U.S. coast to offshore drilling -- even in California, where drilling hasn't been allowed for 30 years. It would be an environmental nightmare.
It’s outrageous. But Trump won’t be able to get away with it without the support of Republican members of Congress in coastal states, many of whom are vulnerable in 2018.
Trump's proposal sparked a massive backlash from coastal states that don't want oil spills on their beaches. Florida was removed from the plan in response to pressure from the state’s Republican governor -- but Trump is refusing to exempt 12 other states that oppose drilling (most of which are run by Democrats).
Join us in telling Congress to oppose Trump's offshore drilling plan. While every member of Congress needs to hear our message, we'll focus our pressure on Republicans in coastal states.
Below is the text of the petition to members of the House:
"President Trump's plan to open offshore drilling everywhere would be an environmental catastrophe. Drilling would threaten the businesses and economy of coastal states, and doubling down the use of fossil fuels that cause climate change is backwards energy policy. It's outrageous that President Trump exempted Florida from the plan but has ignored the requests of a dozen other states that don't want drilling on their coasts. I urge you to stand up to President Trump and do everything in your power to oppose this awful plan."
