Tell your state legislator to support to California Act to Save Lives
50 Californians have been killed so far this year because police officers are legally allowed to use deadly force whenever they deem it "reasonable."
AB 392, the California Act to Save Lives, would amend the use of force standard so that police officers can only shoot when absolutely necessary and when there are no other alternatives to addressing the situation. With the passage of AB 392, police officers would be held accountable for their actions -- which is why the police lobby is trying so hard to defeat this bill.
Sign the petition to call on your state legislators to stand up to the police lobby and demand police accountability:
"Please support AB 392 (the California Act to Save Lives). The bill would finally begin to hold police accountable when they kill unnecessarily by requiring police officers to learn de-escalation tactics rather than resort to killing, helping to save Californians from preventable deaths. We are facing an epidemic of police violence, and people of color are especially vulnerable. It's outrageous that there's no law preventing police from killing when it isn't necessary. California should lead the way in putting in place common-sense reforms that set basic standards around when police are allowed to kill."
