Tell Speaker Boehner: Don’t kick abused women onto the street. End the GOP Shutdown.
The GOP shutdown has left hundreds of thousands of federal employees out of work; children with cancer without life-saving clinical trial treatments; veterans without benefits; needy infants without baby formula; and now women and children fleeing abuse without a safe place to stay.
Domestic violence shelters and rape crisis programs across the country have begun losing the federal funding they need to keep their doors open, forcing some of the most vulnerable women and children to live on the streets, or return to their batterer out of desperation, risking further abuse and even death.
Tell Speaker Boehner: The consequences of victims of domestic violence and rape not having access to shelter or crisis support is life or death. Don’t kick women and children out of emergency shelters and onto the street. Let Congress vote on a “clean” continuing resolution and end this government shutdown so that women and children fleeing abuse can have a safe place to recover.
