Tell Sen. Richard Roth: Stand up for the will of your constituents, not corporate interests

The growing influence of corporate money in Sacramento -- from wealthy donors to corporate backed independent expenditures and political action committees (PACs) --  is making it harder and harder for California to lead as a progressive model for the nation.

Sen. Roth is part of the problem. While accepting corporate contributions, he has a record of voting against the desires and best interests of his constituents.

In fact, Sen. Richard Roth is the least progressive Democrat in the Senate, despite his district’s clear preference for progressive policies.

Among his biggest supporters is the healthcare insurance industry. This comfy relationship may explain why he voted against SB 406, which would expand paid family leave, and agains SB 3, a bill to increase the minimum wage, and his absence for a vote on SB 546, a bill that protects large employers and workers from unjustified increases in the cost of health insurance.

Sen. Roth also voted against a a bill which would  promote drug rehabilitation instead of prison time for certain nonviolent, misdemeanor drug offenses (AB 1351) in direct conflict with his constituents' support to dismantle the deeply racist and flawed War on Drugs.

We must join together to hold him accountable.

SIGN THE PETITION TO TELL STATE SENATOR RICHARD ROTH:

“I am appalled at the excessive influence corporations and the wealthy have in the halls of our state Capitol. Their priorities and profits are consistently placed over the well-being of everyday Californians. Based on what I’ve seen on The People’s Report Card of California, I believe that you are part of the problem. I respectfully ask you to stand up to these moneyed interests and demonstrate courage by representing your constituents, as well as the values of the Democratic Party.”
