Gov. Brown: Sign the Fair Sentencing Act

THIS IS IT! SB 1010 -- known as the California Fair Sentencing Act by Senator Holly Mitchell -- has made it through the California legislature and now it’s in the hands of Governor Jerry Brown to sign it into law.

This historic bill would end the racist sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine -- which unfairly punishes people of color more harshly than white people for using the same drug -- while saving millions of taxpayer dollars in the process.

With the November gubernatorial election around the corner, Gov. Brown might be tempted to veto it. So now more than ever we must join together and speak out as loud as we can to let our governor know where we stand.

SIGN THE PETITION to Governor Brown and say:

“Please sign SB 1010 into law to end the racist crack vs. powder cocaine sentencing disparity. It’s past time to help end the failed 40 year war on drugs, and this bill is a desperately-needed step towards a smarter, more humane, and cost-effective justice system in California.”
