Tell California's Legislators: Represent your constituents, not Big Oil!
Legislators in Sacramento have a choice: fight for their constituents or Big Oil.
Californians are hurting. Badly. We have the highest poverty rate in the nation. The safety net is in tatters. Vital support for childcare, healthcare, nutrition, and housing were slashed during the Great Recession and have yet to be restored. Since 2000, tuition at the University of California has increased more than 300%, while the CSU system and community colleges have also made enormous increases. An oil extraction tax would provide $2 billion in funding for higher education and safety net services.
All other major oil producing states -- like Texas and Alaska -- have a similar tax. California is the 4th largest oil producing state in the country, but because Big Oil has a toxic influence on California's politics, a tax has never been passed.

“I'm writing to ask you to stand with your constituents, not Big Oil, and support Senate Bill 1017. California needs an oil extraction tax to provide stable revenue to fund higher education and restore vital services for our people!”
