Tell SF Board of Supervisors: Make Airbnb pay $25 million in back taxes!
Although many people find Airbnb -- the online service that allows people to turn their homes and apartments into hotels -- to be an enjoyable service, Airbnb still needs to pay its fair share of taxes just like everybody else.
Airbnb has exacerbated San Francisco’s affordable housing crisis by breaking hotel laws and exploiting loopholes in renter protections.
And next week, SF Supervisors have a critical vote that would completely legalize Airbnb's operations without making them pay $25 million in taxes they've evaded for years. That's $25 million dollars that could go towards funding schools and affordable housing in our city. We can't let the Supervisors let them off the hook!
SIGN THE PETITION and tell the San Francisco Board of Supervisors:
"As your constituent, I pay my taxes, and I think Airbnb should as well! It's outrageous that you would legalize Airbnb's controversial business model without requiring them to pay the $25 million that they owe San Francisco.
$25 Million from Airbnb could go a long way to invest in our communities! This giveaway diverts money from our schools, transportation, affordable housing programs and vital services for seniors, youth and families. You shouldn’t be giving billion-dollar corporations special breaks at the expense of working people in our neighborhood.
I join with my neighbors to call on you to vote against the Airbnb giveaway this Tuesday. San Francisco just can’t afford to hand $25 million away to Airbnb.
Thank you for standing up for our neighborhoods and making billion-dollar corporations pay their fair share!"
