California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon just put the Healthy California Act on hold, delaying a critical proposal that would have guaranteed health coverage for every resident of our state. The Speaker has until this Thursday to reverse his decision, so he needs to hear from us now.
Hundreds of thousands of Californians -- including thousands of Courage Campaign members like you -- have spoken up in support of the Healthy California Act. It’s certainly true that the Healthy California Act needs more work before it can achieve all our goals. The Speaker pointed this out as part of his explanation for why he was holding the bill. But the legislative process is designed to allow bills to be improved and refined through research, debate, deliberation, and amendments. And the process was underway -- there are already 17 separate amendments, many of which would directly address concerns voiced by the Speaker, ready to be submitted once the bill arrives in its next committee. Speaker Rendon simply aborted the legislative process.
